April 2018

Welcome to the 2018 season of the Red Hawk Women's Golf Club!

I'm very excited that we have several new members joining us this year, and you will find their names and a little bit about them in another section of this newsletter. Our Board has a fun season planned for our members, and along with our traditional tournaments, we're bringing back the Summer Fun Tournament which has been absent for the past two years. Thanks to Kristi Olson and her team for putting together our "Summer Olympics."

Other planned events include our Thursday and weekend play dates (Chaired by Linda Dankoff and Mary Brock), Golf Goddess Tournament (Chris Herauf), Eclectic Tournament (Jean Martin), Member Guest Tournament (Pam Kolko), D'Hawk Tournament (Kixie Pugh), Intra-Club Tournament (Sue Annala), and Club Championship (Linda Dankoff). If you would be interested in helping any of these ladies with an event, please contact them as I'm sure they would welcome your assistance. Without our fantastic members who step up to help, we couldn't have the wonderful golf opportunities that we do.

Please plan to participate in as many of this year's events and play dates as possible. It's a great way to spend the entire summer!!! I look forward to seeing all of you over the season, and wish you all fantastic golf!

ST. PATRICK'S DINNER IS A BIG SUCCESS

The event was well attended with 100 guests enjoying the traditional corn beef and cabbage dinner. The evening began with a poker walk game, a putting contest, and the selling of raffle tickets. After expenses this led to a total of $738.02 raised for the club.

Following dinner we were entertained by Colleen, her son Jacob, and Peter with several Irish songs. This was followed by our very own Red Hawk Leprechaun's dancing and singing three additional songs. The evening concluded with dancing, music provided by DJ Dan Caraker, who always does a great job!

A special thank you to the following who donated their time, talents, and money to the games and raffle baskets: Rae and Bill Morrow, Dianne Nicholson, Char Swanson, Gale Foltz, Michelle Mathews, and Sheri Carlson.

The golf staff was very generous and donated 4 pairs of golf rounds and 5 lessons. David's donated two $25.00 gift cards, and David Medina donated items for the baskets. What a great staff we have.

Jackie Moore

WELCOME TO OUR NEW MEMBERS

Jackie and Brian live on the 10th fairway of the Lakes and we love the Red Hawk area. They originally lived in California and took a detour by way of Tasmania, Australia before relocating to Sparks, and have been in this area for 30 years.

Jackie is in her 3rd season as a golfer and is addicted to the game and loves being out on the course. Her first Red Hawk game was with hubby Brian, and Pam and Mike Kolko, who made her feel so comfortable. Jill is grateful Pam is her new "big sister" and she looks forward to playing with all the RHWGC ladies.

Jill Quintal

Jill and her husband Ed moved to Sparks from Lake Wildwood, CA in November 2017. They knew the area because they came every year with a group of about 30 to play Red Hawk while their home course was being aeriated. So, no decision was needed since they loved the area, and not to mention their four year old granddaughter lives 5 minutes from their new home. Jill also enjoys working out and is taking advantage of the great classes at Studio II.

Margie Hermanson

Welcome back Margie! Margie has lived in Sparks since 1980, having moved from Pleasanton, CA when husband Bob was transferred with General Motors. They loved Red Hawk when it was first being developed and knew that was where they wanted to be.

Margie is very involved in Soroptimist, a professional women's organization with a mission to help women and girls. Her passion is interior design, which she has done for many years, and continues on a consulting basis, as this continues to be her favorite "hobby."

Margie says, "I am excited to be back in the ladies group and look forward to helping in any way I can with tournaments or other events the club puts on."
